Friend of the show Barry McKay visited Riverside Home Health to find out all about home health!
He meets up with Stacie Smelled, who is a Registered Nurse at Riverside Home Health.
Home health is where nurses go to their patients’ homes and care for them in the comfort of their own space.
Stacie really loves getting to spend 1-on-1 time with her patients. It gives her great pride to help people learn what it takes to be healthy while still living in their home.
Patients also feel the same way about spending time with their nurse. A lot of the time, their nurse may be the only face they see for the day!
She also feels like patients learn better and faster when they are at home.
In order to be a home health nurse, you need some experience in nursing- because you’ll be alone with your patients. You also have to be either an RN or an LPN.
In our area, Riverside is one of the bigger home health companies. This gives the nurses advantages because they have better contact with the doctors, you feel better supported, and you also usually stick to one area and end up driving less than you would with a smaller company.
