Monica visits with appraiser David Nelson to find out more about selling gold and silver. Nelson says it is worth selling if you have gold and silver that is not being used or worn. A silver tea set catches Monica’s eye and Nelson says it is sterling silver and was purchased because it wasn’t being used anymore. Having it out on display someone will see it and buy it and enjoy it. If it doesn’t sell it can be given new life by melting it down and using the silver to make other things. Occasionally someone inherits a coin collection and they don’t know what to do with it. Nelson explains dimes, quarters and half dollars minted before 1964 are made of silver and can be very valuable for the silver alone. Gold jewelry, like old class rings or ex-boyfriend jewelry are also valuable just for the gold.
