Learn How to Care for Hydrangeas in a Dry Climate

Caring for hydrangeas is a dry climate like Arizona is challenging.  Here’s some helpful tips from White House Flowers owner Dennis Thompson. Hydrangeas are difficult to maintain here because they love water and AZ is dry and warm.

  • Change water in the container often to prevent bacteria growth
  • Recut stems and dip immediately (chop and drop) in alum spice (used in pickling) and return to the water. The alum will help the stem drink more water. (Alum only works on Hydrangeas)
  • Hydrangeas can be planted outside in Phoenix in winter on the north side of your building
