Korean Beef and Rice

Our friend Karen from Cooking From the Heart is continuing her world tour, and the next stop is Asia! Although sushi or Chinese food may come to mind- Karen is thinking outside of the box and decided to make a Korean beef and rice dish!

The Base

Start with one pound of ground beef! Cook until it is brown and crumbled, and then drain to get rid of all the excess fat. 

The Flavor

Next, add garlic. Karen uses two fresh cloves which she minced- but we won’t judge if you use more!

After the garlic is mixed in and fragrant, add a quarter cup of brown sugar. Dark or light is fine, whichever you have in your pantry. Stir that in to make sure it’s all mixed well, and on to our next ingredient!

Up next is ground ginger! Use a quarter teaspoon of dried ground ginger, or if you have fresh ginger- that will work too. 

To add to the Asian flavor of the Korean Beef, Karen adds two teaspoons of toasted sesame oil next. It doesn’t have to be toasted if you don’t have it, regular sesame oil will do just fine!

Our final ingredient is a quarter cup of soy sauce! Mix it in and then cover and let the flavors marry for five to seven minutes. 

Plate It Up!

Finally, it’s time to plate! Spread your scrumptious beef mix over a bed of steamed rice, garnish with some green scallions and some sesame seeds- and VOILA! Enjoy!
