This time of year is really important for senior citizens, especially those who rely on Medicare for health insurance coverage. It is time for the Medicare Enrollment Period! Between October 15th and December 7th every year, seniors have an opportunity to opt for new Medicare insurance coverage. Rick Gordon, the Director of Medicare Operations at Optima joins Living 757 to tell us more.
Types of Optima Medicare Coverage
Rick explains that are three main types of Medicare arrangements for seniors to consider:
Original Medicare is the standard coverage offered by the government. Original Medicare only covers a portion of your costs and it does not cover prescription drugs.
Medicare Supplement is a type of coverage you can add to original Medicare. This type of plan has a monthly premium for coverage of some of the out-of-pocket costs which Original Medicare does not cover.
Medicare Advantage is also known as Part C. It is an all-in-one plan where you get everything Original Medicare offers, plus additional protection from out-of-pocket costs. Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage and other extras. These extras include vision, hearing, and dental.
Rick says that people should consider a Medicare Advantage plan with Optima Health because it’s an easy to use health plan. It covers hospitalizations, doctor visits and prescription drugs. In addition, Rick says there are lots of extras in their Medicare Advantage plans as well.

Speaking of extras- Optima has some new programs this year! They have a grocery card allowance, a “silver sneakers” gym benefit, an insulin savings program, and more!
