Sponsored by the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute

The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute

There is no other Proton Institute in the world that is as large and as advanced as the one that is at Hampton University. The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute was founded in 1968, and has had the mission of helping people ever since.

Dr. William Harvey

Dr. William Harvey is the President of Hampton University, and also the founder of the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute. He informs us that even though HU did not have a hospital or a medical school, that they didn’t need either because the Proton Therapy Institute is a self-contained unit. The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, or HUPTI for short, has doctors, nurses and therapists on staff to see to the day to day running of the institute.

Prostate Cancer

Black men have a 72% higher rate of prostate cancer than white men, according to Dr. Harvey.  Nonetheless, he says that both black and white men need to see their doctor and get checked for prostate cancer. This type of cancer is 100% curable if it’s caught in time.

Lawrence Davis is a prostate cancer survivor, who was treated at HUPTI. He said since treatment, he feels like a newer and better version of himself! He describes the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute as a “Mecca of a place, that solves problems, takes care of your cancer and takes care of you mentally and emotionally when you walk through the doors.”

If you or someone you love receives a prostate cancer diagnosis, make sure you reach out to the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute.
