Buy Local and Fresh at These Farmers Markets

After learning about the farmers markets Lori is involved with, we wanted to know why she is so passionate about the farmers market business.

Where are you located?

We have farmers’ markets in Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

What is your slogan and why is it your slogan?

It Takes a community to sustain a farmer’s market. Why? Because without community there are no farm markets or small business that derive from our markets.

New call-to-action

How did you get into this business?

Really, “It Started with a Fig,” which is the name of the jam company I launched in 2015 with fruit from the massive 30-year-old fig tree by my house. I had to bang down Laura Habr of Croc’s door to become a vendor in the Old Beach market. And after that, it just progressed naturally. If I am a part of something, I want to make it great. I always think of the bigger picture.

What drives you to succeed?

Knowing that I can make a difference.

What is the most important thing you do?

My goal is to give people an opportunity to thrive, create community.

What impact does what you do have on the world and the people in it?

Our food system is so important. From the soil to the famers, to the food producers. Knowing what you put in your body, buying it right form the source.  Farmers markets are a great help with that.

What is your inspiration for continuing every day?

Knowing that I can change hearts and minds is my inspiration.  I also strive to continue to encourage others.
