In Week 1, this was the game high school football fans had their eyes on, Chandler (AZ) at Centennial (Corona, CA). Two nationally ranked teams that combined for 105 points and over 1,500 combined yards the last time they met.

Centennial started the season ranked #25 by USA Today, and Chandler came in with a bullseye on their back, ranked #8 on the same poll.

What was anticipated to be a shootout never really developed; Centennial’s defense was able to keep the Wolves at bay & big plays by Gary Bryant, Jr. set the tone on offense en route to a 35-13 win for the Huskies.

Thanks in most part to Bryant’s big night, Corona’s QB platoon of Ala Mikaele and Carter Freedland finish with 405 combined yards through the air.

Chandler just couldn’t contain Bryant, who had a career night with 9 catches for 265 yards and 3 huge TD receptions of 64, 70 and 50 yards, respectively. The junior WR comes into the season rated as the #104 athlete in the country by 247 and has attracted the attention of PAC-12 schools like Washington, Arizona, Oregon and USC. It’s easy to see why.

The Wolves’ high powered offense was never able to get going. Senior QB Jacob Conover finished the game with 133 yards on 15-33 passing and 1 TD. Jaheim Brown-Taylor was able to rip off a 47 yard TD run in the final 2 minutes on his way to 60 yards on just 4 carries.

Chandler will be featured later this season on YurView Arizona as part of the GameTime football schedule when they visit Desert Ridge on September 21. CLICK HERE for a full schedule of games.
