Omaha Burke vs Omaha Westside: What You Need to Know

jaden kohlsThursday’s National Game of the Week is a showdown between two Omaha teams who have their sights set on the playoffs. Burke (5-0) will face Westside (4-1) at 7:00pm CT on September 28th and the game will be broadcast live on YurView Omaha and YurView stations nationally for customers of Cox Communications. It will also stream live on YurView.com.

Who Likes Offense?

The defensive coaches in this game will certainly both have their work cut out for them. So will the scoreboard operator, as Burke hasn’t scored less than 35 points in any game while Westside has put up 41-plus in every game. With that much firepower, any stop defensively can shift momentum in a hurry. Last week on Yurview, Westside scored on their first eight possessions. This week, however, Burke can clinch a playoff berth with a win.

Mr. Touchdown

How many touchdowns will Westside’s Jaden Kohls score this week? The quiet competitor, Kohls has over 500 yards rushing and 9 touchdowns on the ground this season, but that’s hardly the only work he’s put in, and he’s making college coaches take notice.

Last week he had a return TD on the opening kickoff, two receiving scores and a rushing touchdown. Earlier this season against Millard South, he had six scores…IN THE FIRST HALF. Kohls defines the term ‘feature back’ for Head Coach Brett Froendt.

Husker Zone

Burke teammates Nick Henrich and Chris Hickman have both received scholarship offers to Nebraska, along with a slew of other big-time Division 1 schools. Henrich is a linebacker who has 13 tackles for a loss and 6 sacks on the season, while Hickman is a TE for Head Coach Paul Limongi. He’s got 278 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. Both were in Lincoln this past weekend for the Huskers win over Rutgers.

Players to Watch

RB Jaden Kohls – Westside

A threat to score anytime he touches the ball, Burke will look to limit his open field opportunities.

QB Tyler Chadwick – Burke

He’s thrown 14 touchdowns this season…and zero interceptions. He’s thrown 5 TD’s each to Hickman and WR Xavier Watts.

RB James Burks – Burke

Burke’s running back is pretty good with the ball in his hands as well. He has nearly 600 yards on the ground to go along with a Class A leading 14 rushing touchdowns.
