Red Mountain vs. Basha Football (Replay)

Watch a full game replay of Red Mountain vs. Basha (Arizona) high school football – Friday, September 27, 2019.

New call-to-action

The Red Mountain Mountain Lions and the Basha Bears came into Friday’s game both 4-1 on the season. After a late kickoff due to Basha’s delayed arrival to the field, both offenses came out ready on their opening drives.

Red Mountain received the opening kickoff and marched the ball down the field behind the potent running duo of senior running back Deonce Elliot and senior quarterback Hyrum Boren. Elliot capped off the drive with a 13-yard touchdown run to put the Mountain Lions up 7-0. Basha quickly answered on their opening drive with a 53-yard touchdown connection from senior quarterback Micah Harper to senior wide receiver Zion Williams. (Harper made his 2nd start at quarterback Friday in place of injured starting quarterback Gabe Friend, who is out for the season with ACL injury.)

Scoring would come to a screeching halt as both defenses stepped up. Red Mountain senior defensive end, Tre Smith was disruptive all game and led the charge in stifling the Bears offense for the remainder of the half. Red Mountain’s running game got back on track in the second quarter as Hyrum rushed for a 6-yard touchdown followed by senior running back Ty Mcelroy 17-yard touchdown run to put Red Mountain up 21-7 at the half.

Both coaches dialed up explosive offensive plays to start the 3rd
quarter. Basha junior running back Andrell Barney scampered for an 80-yard touchdown run to pull the Bears within 7 points. The Mountain Lions quickly responded as Mcelroy broke several tackles and spun his way to the end zone for a 74-yard touchdown run extending the lead to 28-14. Basha answered on their next drive with another touchdown pass from Harper to Williams, an 80-yard score to close the gap 28-21 as the 3rd quarter came to an end.

The fourth quarter was all Mountain Lions as they would tack on 3 more rushing touchdowns and shut out the Bears. Hyrum would sneak into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown to cap off a 90-yard drive and Elliot added 2 more rushing touchdowns late to put this game to bed. The Mountain Lions finished with 430 yards rushing and defeated the Bears 47-21 to move to 5-1 on the season.

Basha looks to rebound next week when they take on Hamilton and Red Mountain will travel to Skyline hoping to continue their winning streak.
