Top 10 Clash
San Diego’s preseason top-ranked team, St. Augustine takes a 5-0 league record on the road at Mission Bay on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in a Top 10 clash. The Mission Bay Bucs have a similar 16-6 overall record, including 2-2 in league play.
St. Augustine
This is the second meeting between these league foes this season, with St. Augustine outlasting Mission Bay, 67-49 on Jan. 14 behind 31 points from Junior guard Jurian Dixon on 10-of-21 shooting. Dixon has emerged as one of the top players in San Diego County and is receiving high-major college offers.

The Saints are hoping to get back on track after getting upended this past weekend by Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, 70-63. Dixon was one of four Saints in double-figures with a team-high 21 points in the loss. As a freshman at San Ysidro two seasons ago, Dixon had a memorable 32-point, 21-rebound game to lead the Cougars to a 71-59 victory over Coronado in the San Diego Section Division 3 boys basketball championship game.
Michael Haupt has been the head coach of St. Augustine since 1995 after playing collegiately at both San Diego State and USD. During his distinguished coaching career, he’s guided St. Augustine to the 2013 Division III California State Championship, defeating Sacred Heart Cathedral 59-52 in overtime.
Mission Bay
Mission Bay won at La Jolla last week, 60-48 behind Rami Anglo’s 25 point and nine-rebound effort. Gavin Girouard added 19 points and four assists while Marcos Korch scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
In 2018, Bucs head coach Marshawn Cherry led Mission Bay to its first Western League title since 1989. Earlier this season, Cherry surpassed 100 career wins.
