Richard Jenkins has made a career of turning in award-worthy performances in both movies and television. The Visitor, Olive Kitteridge and Six Feet Under are just a few favorite projects of Jenkins fans.
But what many folks may not know is that Jenkins first love was the theater. He started as a resident member of Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island soon after college and performed there for fourteen seasons while slowly easing into film and television. He eventually served as Trinity’s artistic director from 1990-1994, ultimately departing to concentrate strictly on movie and tv performance work.
Jenkins and his wife Sharon, a choreographer, still reside in Rhode Island and return to Trinity Rep occasionally to direct, perform or choreograph. The Jenkins’ reflected on their careers during one of those recent returns.
