Ford Game of the Week: Owasso vs. Union 9-21-18

The Owasso Rams and the Union Redskins met Friday night in a rematch of last year’s 6A Division I state championship game. The game was played on a rainy night at Union-Tuttle Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Union had the ball first and got the early lead when senior Darius Boone scored on a 43 yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0.

After Union forced an Owasso punt deep in the Rams end of the field, the Redskins had great field position. A four play drive resulted in another Darius Boone touchdown, this one from ten yards out. It came at the 6:59 mark of the first quarter to give Union a 14-0 lead.

The Owasso offense threatened on occasion but could not score. So when Darius Boone turned the corner and scored from 54 yards out Union had a commanding 21-0 lead early in the third quarter.

Behind Darius Boone’s 314 yards and a strong defensive performance Union won the game 21-0. Union is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in district play. Owasso is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district.

The Player of the game was Union’s senior running back Darius Boone.  Boone, who is committed to Eastern Michigan University carried the ball 28 times for 314 yards and 3 touchdowns.  His scores came on runs of 43, 10, and 54 yards.

The Play of the Game was made at the 9:45 mark of the third quarter.  It was Darius Boone’s 54 yard touchdown run which put Union up 21-0.
