Football season is now in full gear, as most teams across the country have played their season openers. It’s only going to get better from here as fall progresses.
Here’s a look at some of the top headlines entering another week of the high school football season, with a full slate of games scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 30-Sept. 1:
A pair of national powerhouses to face off
Last year, Centennial (Ariz.) had a huge win on the national landscape when it upset St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.). Now, it’ll look for a similar victory in its second game of the 2018 season.
Bishop Gorman (Nev.) will travel to Centennial on Friday, and it’s got some extra motivation. After entering the season ranked No. 11 in the USA Today Super 25, Bishop Gorman fell out of the poll this week after getting shut out by Mater Dei (Calif.), the No. 3 team in the country, last week. It was the first time that Bishop Gorman had been blanked in 12 years.

Owasso facing coach’s old school
Owasso (Okla.) is playing a pair of Arkansas schools to open the season. Last week, it beat Bentonville, 56-40, in the Ford Game of the Week on YurView Oklahoma, which moved it up to No. 24 in the USA Today Super 25.
This Friday, Owasso will play Fayetteville, which is where Bill Blankenship coached before taking the job at Owasso in 2017.
“I realized how much I was missing the grandkids and started looking at a way to be closer,” Blankenship recently told the Owasso Reporter on his move prior to last season.
It may be Owasso’s first road trip of the season — and its only out of Oklahoma — but it should certainly have a familiar feel for Blankenship.

Top Oklahoma recruit races big brother
Daxton Hill (Booker T. Washington High School, Tulsa, Okla.) is fast. Very fast. That’s why he’s a 5-star recruit and the top 2019 Oklahoma recruit in the 247sports composite rankings.
He just might not be as fast as his older brother.
Hill’s older brother, Justice, also played at Booker T. Washington. He is now a junior running back at Oklahoma State.
Last week, a video was released of the brothers racing in a 40-yard dash recently. And while Justice may have had him beat, it was extremely close.

Daxton Hill hasn’t yet decided where he’s playing after this season. He holds offers from several top out-of-state schools (Michigan, Alabama) as well as Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, among others.
Could in-state lineman become a Husker?
Cole Aniello, a massive offensive tackle who plays for Millard West High School (Omaha, Neb.), received great news before his team’s season opener last Friday.
Aniello had received a preferred walk-on offer to play at Nebraska.
“I am really happy to receive a walk-on offer from a school like Nebraska.” Aniello recently told NebHSRecruiting.com. “It is a place I have wanted to play since I was a little kid.”

Aniello also has five other walk-on offers, and he has previously said that he’s in no rush to make a decision.
Millard West won its season opener last Friday, beating Millard North, 35-0. This Friday, Millard West plays a second straight road game against Burke on YurView and YurView.com.
