As several thousand volunteers along the Commonwealth come together for this special day, hundreds of miles of shore lines and streams are cleaned fro debris and litter by the tons. 3500 volunteers gathered at about 200 different sites all over Virginia; moving and collecting over 45000 pounds of debris and litter. Boats even cleaning the debris found in the water, trapping it in special boats made for that solid purpose.

Because of these volunteers, hundreds of wild-life and even our water systems are cleaned and saved!

On June 1st, 2019, Clean the Bay day celebrated their 31st Anniversary. They dedicated this event, however, to those who were affected by the mass shooting in Virginia Beach on May 30. Virginia Beach was actually the first city to start this organization. A moment of silence was held at each cleanup site for those victims.
