AZ #2 Mountain Pointe & OK #2 Owasso Headline 7 Big Games (Oct. 12-13)

This week’s GameTime schedule includes seven conference match-ups with huge implications for the playoffs.  The featured games include the #2 ranked teams in Arizona and Oklahoma.

The national game on Thursday, October 13th is Desert Ridge vs. #2 Mountain Pointe (Arizona).  The other Thursday night match-up is a regional game between #2 Owasso vs. Southmoore (Oklahoma).

Regional conference games on Friday, October 13th include Oceanside vs. Torrey Pines (San Diego, CA), Edmond Santa Fe vs. Broken Arrow (Oklahoma), St. Thomas More vs. Teurlings Catholic (Louisiana), Bryan vs. Benson (Omaha, NE), and Blanchard vs. Bethany (Oklahoma – Streaming only).

The Thursday national game is available to all Cox subscribers. Regional games will be televised in specific Cox markets, and all games stream live on yurview.com. Desert Ridge vs. Mountain Pointe (Arizona)

When:  Thursday, October 12 – 7:00pm MST/9:00pm CT (times/channels vary across regions – check local listings)

Overview:  Check out the preview on yurview.com.  This will be a battle between two of the top Division 6A teams in Arizona.  Both teams enter the game with 6-1 records.  Desert Ridge has made it to the big school finals twice since 2010 and has won 10 or more games in 6 of the past 7 seasons.  On offense, Matthew Purnell and Cooper Schmidt have been dividing time at QB.  Other team leaders for the Jaguars include RB Tyrese Allen with over 600 yards rushing and DB Don’Jae Logan. Logan is rated the number 4 defensive back in the state and is looking to take his talents to Stanford.

Mountain Pointe is #2 ranked team in Arizona and #1 in Division 6A. Their only loss this season was to national power Chaminade of California.  Mountain Pointe averages 267 yards rushing per game led by RB’s Gary Bragg and Jakim McKinney.  The defense is led by 295 lb. DT Shomari Hayes who has an offer to Fresno State and is getting a lot of interest from Pac-12 teams.  Defensive Back Kenny Churchwell is one of the top DB’s in the country and has offers offers from Arizona State, Arizona, California and more.

Owasso vs. Southmoore (Oklahoma)

Overview:  Check out the preview on yurview.com.  Owasso (5-1) is the #2 ranked team in Oklahoma.  There only blemish was a double overtime loss to top ranked Union 44-41.  Owasso’s strength is the secondary led by Ohio State commit, Josh Proctor and Kansas State commit Wayne Jones. Southmoore has struggled this season with an 0-6 record but hope to pull off a huge upset at home.

Oceanside vs. Torrey Pines (San Diego, CA)

When:  Friday, October 13 – 7:00pm PT/9:00pm CT

Overview:  Check out the preview on yurview.com.  Oceanside (2-4) vs Torrey Pines (4-2)  – Division 1 San Diego Section Avocado League.  This is a must win games for both squads.  Oceanside needs to win out to keep their slim playoff hopes alive while Torrey Pines attempts to keep pace in the tough Avocado League.

The Oceanside program is a storied one, with 2 California state championships and home to NFL Hall of Famer Junior Seau.  The Pirates are led by 6’6” 275 lb. offensive/defensive lineman Donavan Laie (offers from Arizona, Colorado, Colorado State, Hawaii, Oregon State) and 5’10” 190 lb. LB Mikah Linnan (offer from Hawaii),

For the Falcons of Torrey Pines, they prefer to use a smash mouth running game behind a veteran O-Line. Senior RB’s Sully O’Brien and Junior Mac Bingham average an impressive 276 yards per game.

St. Thomas More vs. Teurlings Catholic (Louisiana)

When:  Friday, October 13 – Pre-game show 6:30pm CT

Overview:  Check out the preview of this Cajun country showdown.  Big Louisiana 4A District 4 game featuring last year’s 4A champion St. Thomas More (5-1) vs. Teurlings Catholic (3-3).

The Cougars of St. Thomas More feature an experienced offensive line with all-district guard Grant Young along with Jonathan Harding and Landon Burton. This trio helps create room for Sr. QB Peyton Landry, RB’s Chris Primeaux and William Cryer along with WR Sydney Lindon. The defense is led by LB Paul LaBord, DE Sam Greenwood and defensive backs Cade Broussard and Jude Joseph.

For Teurlings Catholic, Dane Charpentier takes over the Rebels’ program after his father, Sonny, stepped down after last season. The Rebels returns three starters on the offensive line led by All-Acadiana Justin Mathews (6-3, 300) and junior LSU commit Thomas Perry (6-7, 320).  The offense features QB Wesley Blazek along with RB Hayden Judice. The defense is led by DE’s Jake and Reid McGuire along with last year’s leading tackler LB Beau LeBlanc.

Edmond Santa Fe vs. Broken Arrow (Oklahoma)

Overview:  Preview the game HERE.  This game is an important Oklahoma District 1 match-up.  The Edmond Santa Fe Wolves are go into the game with a record of 4-2.  Their primary offensive star is M’bari Snoddy who has rushed for 793 yards through six games.  He averages 7.7 yds/carry, 133 yds/game with nine TD’s.  Broken Arrow (2-4) just came off the huge upset win over conference rival and previously unbeaten Westmoore.

Bryan vs. Benson (Omaha, Nebraska)

When:  Friday, October 13 – 7:00pm CT

Overview:  Nebraska Division 2 conference game between two 1-6 teams.  Both teams depend on their junior QB’s to get things done. In Benson’s week one win, QB Cannon Katskee went 16-29 for 295 yards and 2 touchdowns. Katskee is also Benson’s leading rusher with 187 yards on the ground. The other offensive leader for Benson is RB Mesiah Block. Bryan quarterback Desmond Prusia went 8-13 for 102yds/1 TD in their win over Omaha South. Prusia has averaged more than 173 yards per game passing for the season.

Blanchard vs. Bethany (Oklahoma – Streaming only)

Overview:  This game is a match-up between two of the top 4A teams in Oklahoma.  Blanchard is currently undefeated at 6-0 while Bethany is 5-1. Blanchard has only given up 7 points in the last 8 quarters, but this game they will play a tough conference opponent on the road.
