Millard North vs Papio La Vista

Millard North and Papillion-LaVista will meet in a contest Friday night that should have major playoff implications for Class A in Nebraska.

The game will be broadcast live on Yurview for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.comPlease note:  Game start time changed to 5:00pm CDT due to weather considerations.

Getting Back to the Playoffs

Both of these teams need this game to get back to the state playoffs. The only difference is Papillion-LaVista is trying to snap a playoff drought while Millard North is looking to extend its long postseason streak.

Papillion-LaVista last made the Class A playoffs in 2015 when they went 5-5. Since then, they have a combined record of 13-15.

But they are extremely hot heading into Friday. After starting the season with three straight losses, Papillion-LaVista has won its last three games by a combined score of 139-20. If they win this week, Papillion-LaVista will move above the .500 mark for the first time since Oct. 2015.

Meanwhile, Millard North has made the postseason every year since 2009. During that time, they have won a pair of state championships and captured double digits victories four times.

This season, though, has been a little rough for Millard North. While the program has won its last two, Millard North lost four straight to begin the season and enters this week at 2-4.

Players to Watch

OT Preston Kellogg – Papillion-La Vista

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 277 pounds, Kellogg is the No. 8 prospect in Nebraska for the 2020 class according to Omaha.com.

He’s an excellent run blocker, and there’s only one offensive lineman ranked ahead of him from Nebraska in the class.

QB Cam Wierners – Millard North

Wierners helped Millard North turn its season around two weeks ago when he threw a 20-yard touchdown and ran for a 6-yard score in a 14-13 victory against Fremont.

The Millard North signal caller is a dual threat and is among the leaders in rushing on the team.

OL Malik Barnes – Papillion-LaVista

The senior just missed the cut on the Top 20 Nebraska recruits for the 2019 class from Omaha.com, but he did make the watch list. He and Kellogg make up an offensive line that can really get a great push up front.
