Highland vs. Hamilton: What You Need to Know

After a disappointing 2018 for Hamilton, in which the Huskies saw their first-ever losing record, they started out the 2019 season with a 44-21 win over Chaparral in Week 0 to set the tone for a big Week 1 matchup against Highland.

LAST TIME THEY MET

The two teams last met on Aug. 24, 2018 where Highland dominated Hamilton by a score of 49-28. The Hawks put up 35 points in the second quarter to set up the big win. Highland running back Daniel Wood led the rushing attack for the Hawks as he ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

WR Brenden Rice, 6’3″/215 Sr. – Hamilton

Rice is ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in Arizona’s 2020 class by 247Sports. He has yet to make a commitment to where he will play college football, but the 6’3″ 215 lb. receiver has offers from over 20 schools including Michigan, Oregon, Arizona State and Nebraska.

As a junior, Rice had 730 receiving yards, 11 touchdowns. In the Huskies 2018 matchup with the Hawks, Rice had 159 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

In last week’s win against Chaparral, Rice had 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

RB Daniel Wood, 5’10″/205 Sr. – Highland

Wood comes in to the 2019 season looking to build on a breakout junior year where he rushed for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. The running back will be a guy the Hawks look to for leadership as he is one of the more experienced players on this year’s team.

In the Hawks season opener against Alhambra, Wood had two rushing touchdowns in the 52-0 win.
