Scotlandville Enters the Playoffs with a 50-27 Win Over Denham Springs

After their loss last week to Zachary, the Hornets took the field Friday refocused on their strengths. But in the first quarter, Denham Springs looked just as playoff-ready with an early interception by Elijah Tolliver. The Jackets’ inability to convert on that interception would prove a harbinger of things to come.

Scotlandville, however, displayed all the discipline and verve one would expect from last year’s Division I state runner-up. Especially effective were the combination of Trenton Charles and Shedrick Smith. Charles, a Yale commit, broke 1,000 yeards rushing before the half. Jaylon Pitts also distinguished himself with a pick six late in the game.

Denham Springs backup quarterback Luke Lunsford entered the game late, but threw for two of the Jackets’ three touchdowns. It wasn’t enough to turn the tide, however, and Scotlandville enters the playoffs with a 50-27 win over Denham Springs.
