The Knights are accustomed to making deep playoff runs. They’ve played in five straight title games, winning four of them and they have enough talent to get to the Superdome this season.

Lafayette Christian played up to Class 4A this season and still won a bunch of games, going 7-3 in the regular season. They are led by one of the top players in the state for the Class of 2024. Junior QB JuJuan Johnson is a dynamic player who has thrown for 2,522 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also leads the team in rushing with 664 yards and he’s scored eight TDs with his legs.

Alonzo Ryes is LCA’s leading pass catcher. He has 38 catches for 756 yards and six touchdowns. Trae Grogan has come on as the season has gone along and has seven touchdown catches. TJ Marzell is also having a terrific season with seven total touchdowns and 26 catches.

On defense, linebackers Sam Taylor and Dolyal Bickham III lead the team in tackles, each have 91. Melvin Hills III brings the heat on opposing quarterbacks with eight sacks.

The secondary is very good too as Brean Leblanc has five interceptions and Ty Lee has 15 pass breakups. Lee loves to go up against the other team’s best receiver.

The Knights will face a team that has several big-time receivers. McDonogh #35 has Charles Barbarin, Dameon McCloud and Tyrus Morris.

Morris has 4.4 speed and is having a good season after tearing his ACL last season. He has offers from dozens of schools.

McCloud caught a 55-yard touchdown pass late in the game earlier this season to beat their rival Carver in the Wayne Reese Classic. He has eight touchdown receptions.

Barbarin is a three-year starter, who will also play some defense. He’s only five-foot-seven but electrifying. A couple of weeks ago, he caught seven passes for 191 yards and two scores against Warren Easton. For the season, he has 45 catches for 855 yards and eight touchdowns.

Santana Price is the man who gets these playmakers the ball. He threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns against Warren Easton. He’s a true leader for the Roneagles with 4.6 speed. Coach Frank Daggs says Price makes the right reads, can throw the short and long ball and doesn’t make many mistakes. For the season, he’s thrown for 1,597 yards, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Running back Roosevelt Mollett might be the smallest guy on the field on Friday, but he can make some incredible runs. Mollett can break tackles and last week in McDonogh 35’s playoff win over Peabody, he had 13 carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

The Roneagles have some beef on the offensive line. Left guard Wardell White and center Josh Dukes each weigh over 300 pounds. They also have experience on the o-line, with four seniors.

On defense, Alex Sumler is a disruptor on the defensive line, who is one of the strongest guys on the team, benching 375 pounds and squatting 485 pounds. Sumler has 13 sacks.

Keith Newsome is a sophomore defensive end who is excellent rushing the passer and has nine sacks to go along with 33 tackles.

Linebacker Corey Ruth is the quarterback of the defense, very athletic at five-foot-ten.

McDonogh’s defensive secondary will have to play well against LCA’s talented wide receivers and the Roneagles have a couple of ball hawks. Free safety Thai Brown is a track star and has team-leading seven interceptions, while two-year starter Armani Bell has also picked off multiple passes.
