Ford Game of the Week: Jenks vs. Union Football (Replay) 9-13-19

Watch a replay of the Ford Game of the Week: The Backyard Bowl – Jenks vs. Union (Oklahoma) high school football – September 13, 2019.

The 16th edition of the MidFirst Bank Backyard Bowl was played at Union-Tuttle Stadium in Tulsa Friday night.  Jenks came into the game with a 1-1 record and Union was 0-2.  But as they say, when these two get together you can throw the records out the window.
Union got it going early in their first drive.  A.J. Green went around the right end and down the sideline 68 yards to put Union up 7-0 with less than a minute gone in the game.
Jenks was playing without starting quarterback Stephen Kittleman.  But the Trojans had an ace up their sleeve in the form of two-way player Will Cox.  Normally he is a running back and defensive back.  Tonight he added quarterback to his resume.
He led the Trojans right back down the field capping a drive with a nice 35 yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7.  Then Kobey Rogers scored from short range and Jenks led 13-7.  Next Will Cox hit Branden Elrod behind the Jenks secondary for a big gain to the Union 8.  Then Cox passed to Justin Murphy for the touchdown and the Jenks lead extended to 20-7.
But A.J. Green would do something about that. This time it was a 58 yard ramble that pulled Union within six at the half.
In the third quarter Union’s Rovaughn Banks finished a Union drive with a 1 yard plunge and the Redskins led 21-20.
Late in the third quarter Jenks was deep in Union territory driving for the lead.  But a Jenks fumble inside the five was scooped up by Union’s Joe Nichols who scooped and scored.  He ran 90 yards and Union’s led 28-20.
With 9:18 left in the game, Rovaughn Banks scored again, this time from 6 yards out.  That gave Union the final victory margin of 35-20.
Both teams are now 1 & 2, and will have an open date next Friday.
