Lady Rams Need OT to Stave Off Pesky Hawks

The Rams led for most of the day against the visiting Hawks, but Saint Joseph’s held Rhody to three points in the fourth quarter to chip away and force the extra period Sunday afternoon at the Ryan Center.

Both teams struggled to score in the extra stanza but it was Freshman Catherine Cairns 5 points in the last minute of overtime that sealed the victory for URI 50-48 seen on Cox Yurview and ESPN+.

With the victory, Rhode Island moved into a tie for second place in the A-10 standings with Richmond, which defeated George Mason earlier in the day. Rhody beat the Spiders head-to-head on Jan. 15. The Rams move to 7-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

Next up, URI will host George Mason on Friday at 4pm. That game can be seen locally on Cox Yurview Channel 4 and ESPN+.
