He’s back.

Rhode Island rising senior guard Daron “Fatts” Russell, one of the most dynamic players in all of college basketball, withdrew his name from NBA Draft consideration and is returning to Kingston for his senior season.

In averaging 18.8ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.6apg, and 2.9spg a year ago, Russell established himself as one of the elite guards in the Atlantic 10 and was named to several prestigious national lists, including one of just 30 players nationwide tabbed a Naismith Trophy finalist.

By way of a press release from “Limitless Enterprises” around 8pm yesterday (Russell’s personal brand), he announced his intention to return to the Rams for a last dance. The welcomed news – a massive understatement – provides David Cox with his alpha-veteran to lean-on and team with talented newcomer Jeremy Sheppard in the back court.

I caught up for a Zoom interview with Fatts just 24 hours after the announcement to discuss the process of declaring, what transpired, and his decision to return.
