Roughers Fall to Choctaw, But Not Without a Fight

​The winless Muskogee Roughers fall to the Choctaw Yellowjackets in the Thursday night Ford Game of the Week at Bill Jensen Field.

The Roughers came out battling

Muskogee had two red zone opportunities in the first quarter but couldn’t score.
In the second quarter, the Roughers’ Israel Martin recovered a fumble on a Choctaw punt return inside the Yellowjacket 10. On fourth and goal, quarterback Walker Newton scored from one yard out.

Muskogee led 7-0, but the Yellowjackets quickly responded with 18 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Steele Wasel to Terrill Davis. Choctaw’s two-point conversion attempt failed, and the score was 7 to 6.

The Roughers followed that up with a 10-play 47-yard drive. That time consuming possession led to a 35-yard field goal by Muskogee’s Skyler Onebear that put Muskogee up 10 to 6 with 3:28 left in the half.

The Yellowjackets Sting

Then Choctaw put together a drive 9 play drive that led to an 8 yard touchdown pass from Wasel to Jax Burchett. Another Wasel to Burchett connection on the two point conversion attempt gave the Yellowjackets a 14-6, halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Choctaw began to pull away. At the 5:57 mark, running back La’Trell Ray rambled 84 yards to extend the lead to 20 to 10. In the fourth quarter, Choctaw’s Bolton Hawkins made a great diving interception. The Yellowjackets then drove the field scoring on a 1 yard touchdown leap by Steele Wasel.

Wasel was the Ford Player of the Game. He was 14-21 passing for 315 yards. He threw two touchdown passes and had one rushing touchdown.

Ultimately, Choctaw held on to the ball and the momentum to get the win 26-10. Muskogee falls to 0 and 6. Choctaw goes to 4 and 3.
