In this segment of Hometown Heroes we interview volunteers of the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. Tom Owen, Senior Docent and Aircraft Handler; Roy “Flash” Gordon, Docent; and Lars Stampe, Docent; share what they love about the museum and its treasures.

There are tons of activities for all ages at the Military Aviation Museum! It is a great place for families to visit. Bring your kids! There’s even a dinosaur scavenger hunt at their Jerrassic Park. And if you’re still looking for something to occupy your kids this summer take a look at their Warbirds Aviation Summer Camp! A week long camp for 3rd through 10th graders (separated by age group). The museum is perfect for educational field trips and scouting activities. Or as a great addition to your day trip to Virginia Beach. Make an appointment to check out their library that houses books on military aircraft. Or if you’re interested in hosting your next event at their facility; contact the Museum’s Event Coordinator to discuss partnering ideas!

This museum is unique not only for their collection of planes, but for that most of these planes fly! Go to one of their airshows to watch them in action. Or better yet book a one or two person ride on an authentic WWII aircraft! Definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity!
