Regular Season Rematch

Just two weeks ago, Holy Cross edged St. Augustine, 24-20, behind two touchdowns from sophomore running back Jaden Handy. If St. Augustine wants to advance to the quarterfinals, they’ll have to play better in the team’s second trip to Holy Cross field.

During the regular season, Holy Cross was the superior team, as they finished with an 8-3 record. After beating St. Augustine, Holy Cross knocked off Live Oak last Thursday and are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the playoffs.

Also last week, St. Augustine fell to Archbishop Rummel, 38-14, so St. Augustine comes into the postseason on a two-game losing streak. St. Augustine finished 5-5 but has lost three of the last five games.

Holy Cross and St. Augustine are the No. 7 and 10 seeds, respectably, in the Louisiana Division I class. The winner of the Holy Cross-St. Augustine matchup will face No. 2 seeded Catholic B.R.

Players to Watch

RB Jaden Handy – Holy Cross

Holy Cross averages more than 5.0 yards per carry, and that’s due to three dominant runners. But it’s the youngest back, sophomore Jaden Handy, that leads the team with more than 700 yards on the ground.

This season, Handy has recorded three 100-yard rushing days. In addition to two touchdowns, he rushed for 92 yards against St. Augustine two weeks ago.

OLB Taiwan Berryhill – St. Augustine

A 3-star prospect, Berryhill is the No. 19 ranked Louisiana prospect in the 2020 class. He’s also rated the No. 34 outside linebacker and is a top 450 overall player in the nation.

St. Augustine will probably need a couple dynamic defensive plays from Berryhill to pull off the upset.
