Landry Walker at John Curtis WYNTK

The high school football season kicks off in Louisiana with one of the top matches in New Orleans this fall. For the fourth straight year, Landry Walker and John Curtis will square off in Week 1.

The game will be broadcast live on Yurview Louisiana for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.

Budding Rivalry?

Landry Walker and John Curtis have only been meeting annually since 2015, but the close proximity to each other suggests this could become one of the top rivalries in the state. Ill-will may even be already be developing, however, it’s been an uneven matchup through its first three years with John Curtis winning all three games.

Last season, Landry Walker lost despite out-gaining John Curtis by more than 100 yards. The vaunted John Curtis defense created four takeaways and posted four sacks in the victory.

Players to Watch

CB Donald Clay – John Curtis

The senior cornerback leads a strong John Curtis defensive backfield, which also features highly-regarded safeties Brenton Clofer and Dominic Brown. Clay is the No. 32 Louisiana recruit in the 2019 class.

In May, Clay committed to SMU.

RB Chad Alexander – Landry Walker

He may only be listed at 5-foot-5 and 153 pounds, but Alexander is one of the top 100 prospects in Louisiana for 2019. The senior ran well against the John Curtis defense last season and remains the key to Landry Walker finally winning in this series.

Alexander committed to New Mexico in May.

DT Angelo Anderson – John Curtis

The previously mentioned Clofer and Brown are certainly worth watching too, but Anderson will arguably be the best defender on the field in this game, and he’s only a junior. The 6-foot-1, 254-pound defensive tackle is the No. 22 Louisiana prospect in the 2020 class.

Anderson has reportedly received offers from Tennessee, Colorado and Nicholls State.
