Better a Late Start than Never for URI’s Jim Fleming

Not that long ago many FCS college football programs around the country wondered if they would even have a chance to play any games in 2020? The short answer for the Colonial Athletic Association was no, but we’ll delay the season to early spring 2021. That’s where Jim Fleming and the University of Rhode Island stand as practice has already begun and the Rams prepare for a February 28 date with cross-state opponent Bryant University.

In his six years as head coach, Fleming has taken a program and brought it back from the depth of despair to the point of respectability and beyond. In 2018, Fleming’s Rams found themselves darting in and out of the top 25 while landing wideouts Isiah Coulter and Aaron Parker on NFL rosters. Coulter is currently coming off the disabled list for the Texans and will likely see some playing time in the near future.
