Sophomore Quarterback Battle

The Hornets’ QB Lathan Boone has been a driving force for his team through the air this season. He has passed for a stellar 1,682 yards and 15 TDs so far. After falling to Bixby, Booker T. Washington went on to beat Lawton in the first round of the playoffs to advance to this week’s road game.

The Bombers have their own young weapon at quarterback in DeAngelo Irvin Jr. His production through the air accounts for 1,471 yards and 11 TDs, but those numbers are only part of the picture for Irvin. He’s a true dual-threat, with 367 rushing yards and good hands in the bargain. Midwest City topped Muskogee last week to advance to this round.

Other Players to Watch

#16 in the 2021 ESPN Top Oklahoma Recruits, Keuan Parker is a 3-star corner committed to the University of Arkansas.

WR Jalen Teague. At 6’ 4”, Teague is a big target for Lathan Boone down the field. Look for him to make moves in this game.

RB Jaiden Carroll. A sophomore, Carroll is following in the footsteps of talented Hornets forbears like Dax Hill, Robert Meachem, and the Locketts. Head Coach Jonathan Brown says,”He just has a ferocious mindset that he will not be denied.”

The Bombers have their own 3-star corner in Makale Smith. After offers from Air Force, New Mexico and Oregon State, Smith is staying home at OSU. Fun Fact: Pokes coach Mike Gundy is a Midwest City alum.
