Ford Game of the Week: Putnam City West vs. Deer Creek (Replay) 11-1-19

The Putnam City West Patriots played the Deer Creek Antlers at Heflin Field in Edmond, Oklahoma Friday night.  The Patriots entered the game winless in eight tries.  The Antlers were 4-4 overall but at 2-3 in 6A-II District 1, they were looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Putnam City West got things going on their first play from scrimmage.  Senior running back Emadre Hightower ran 72 yards to the Deer Creek 8.  But on the next play, quarterback Jakob Brandenberger’s pass was intercepted by Deer Creek’s Zane Shades who returned the ball out to the 42 yard line.  A few plays later Deer Creek’s Tyler Travis scored from six yards out and the Antlers were on top early 7-0.  Quarterback Gavin Houska connected with Ian McCall for a touchdown and the first quarter ended with Deer Creek leading 14-0.
In the second quarter Deer Creek got three touchdowns from LaMorris Davis and a 43 yard TD pass from Houska to Will Michael to go up 42-0.  Then with less than a minute left in the half, Deer Creek’s Angelo Clarke intercepted a Putnam City West pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown.  The Antlers led 49-0 at the half.
In the second half, a LaMorris Davis touchdown made it 56-0.  The scoring wrapped up when Jevion Jones intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown.  The final score was Deer Creek 63, Putnam City West 0.
Highlights:

Deer Creek’s senior running back Tyler Travis was the Ford Player of the Game.  He had 162 yards rushing on 16 carries and 1 touchdown.  LaMorris Davis rushed for 120 yards and four touchdowns.  Gavin Houska was 8-8 passing for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Deer Creek improves to 3-3 in district play, 5-4 overall.  Putnam City West is 0-8.
