URI Women Coast Past Hartford 84-49

The Rams never trailed in the contest

Forwards Emmanuelle Tahane and Marie-Paule Foppossi combined for 48 points as Rhode Island snapped a three-game skid by thumping Hartford, 84-49, Wednesday evening.

 The Rams (8-3) never trailed in the contest. Rhode Island scored the first six points of the night, as Foppossi and Tahane made layups on the first two possessions before Tahane hit a pair of free throws. Hartford (0-9) never got closer than three points the rest of the way.

 The Rams forced Hartford to make five turnovers in the game’s first four minutes, helping URI establish a nine-point lead https://youtu.be/B-MWdWbNHGkat 16-7 after a Chanell Williams 3-pointer. From there, Rhode Island missed its next 16 shots, including 10 from 3-point range. Despite going cold, the Rams never lost their lead. Hartford cut it to three on an Abby Streeter 3-pointer that made it 16-13. Rhody then went on a 19-4 run to go up by double-digits. The lead got to as many as 18 points and Rhody took a 37-23 lead into the break.

Foppossi (13) and Tahane (7) combined for 20 points in the third quarter as Rhody ostensibly put the game away. The Rams outscored Hartford by 11 in the period to take a 25-point advantage (61-36) into the fourth quarter.

 Rhode Island maintained the pressure and continued to stretch the lead in the final period, cruising to the victory.
