Copper Canyon vs. Valley Vista: What You Need to Know

Copper Canyon (1-5) takes on Valley Vista (3-3) this Friday.

Copper Canyon got their first win of the season last week against Cibola on a last minute touchdown from senior slot back turned quarterback, Doug Woodall.

Though their record may not reflect it, Copper Canyon head coach Sean Freeman says this year’s Aztec team is gritty and shouldn’t be counted out.

Valley Vista is coming off back-to-back losses against Pinnacle and La Joya Community and will be looking to right the ship this week.

Last season, the Monsoon got the win 32-0.

Check out the players to watch ahead of Friday’s matchup. Kick-off is at 7pm PT/10pm ET on YurViewAZ and on yurview.com/live.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Sr. LT Andrew Rumary, 6’7″ 280 – Valley Vista

Rumary is a 3-star prospect ranked as the No. 3 offensive guard in the 2020 class in Arizona, No. 29 overall in the state by 247Sports.

Rumary is a young senior, just recently turning 17. A three-year starter on Varsity for the Monsoon, head coach Josh Sekoch says Rumary has really come into his own this season.

Rumary has offers from Arizona, Iowa State, Wyoming, San Diego State, and New Mexico State, among others.

So. WR Derrick Sailor, 5’6″ 150 – Copper Canyon

When Copper Canyon head coach Sean Freeman took the job with the Aztecs he heard a buzz around Sailor. After work one evening, he stopped by a local park where kids went to play football and saw Sailor putting on a show.

Freeman calls Sailor a “young prodigy.” This season when Freeman told Sailor he would be playing on Varsity, Sailor told his coach he was ready to “put Copper on his back.”

Only a sophomore, the sky is the limit for this young offensive weapon that the Aztecs have.

SANDS FAN CAR GIVEAWAY

At halftime on Friday, five lucky Sands Fans will each get a key, but only one will unlock a brand new 2019 Chevy Spark from Sands Chevrolet. Tune in to see who will be driving off in a great new ride!
