Archie Miller: “I Don’t Believe URI Takes A Back Seat To Anybody”

The former Dayton and Indiana coach is ready to put his stamp on Rhody

New University of Rhode Island men’s basketball head coach Archie Miller was introduced by the school in a press conference on Monday, March 23, 2022. Miller is well known for his playing days at North Carolina as well as more recently coaching at Dayton and Indiana. Soon after the press conference he sat down with Stone Freeman for this wide ranging one-on-one conversation.

Freeman, whose association with URI has been lengthy and varied, had many issues on his mind, particularly after the Ram’s just-ended disappointing season. He had also solicited topics and questions from Rams fans on social media.

The men discussed where exactly Miller will begin, recruiting, The A-10 conference, current players, the portal and his close friendship with Providence coach Ed Cooley among other topics.

Miller was convincing and confident in his answers and belief that he will be ushering in a brand new era of success and renown for the URI men’s basketball program.
