Highlights: Denham Springs vs Hahnville on 11/10/2017

Game Recap

#10 Hahnville and #23 Denham Springs met last night in the first round of the 5A playoffs. The first quarter showed strong defensive plays, particularly on the Denham Springs side, who played tough and held the Hahnville offense off until the end of the quarter. Hahnville landed the first run with 3:14 left in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets responded, tying the score. The second quarter brought two more Hahnville touchdowns, leaving a halftime score of 21-7. In an explosive third quarter, Denham Springs fired back against the tigers, gaining another touchdown with 9:01 left. Hanville returned to score back to back touchdowns, ending the third quarter with a score of 35-14. In the final quarter, Hahnville scored another touchdown with 9:30 left. Denham Springs answered with a final touchdown, leaving a final score of 42-21. The Tigers will advance in the playoffs as Denham Springs’ season comes to a close.

Highlights

Big offensive runs resulted in touchdown after touchdown for the Hahnville Fighting Tigers. Turnovers and 346 Hahnville rushing yards resulted in six total Tiger touchdowns. Junior quarterback Jhaquan Jackson connected with Anthony Williams to run for five of the six touchdowns. Third quarter back to back touchdowns between the two teammates solidified the Tigers’ domination of the Yellow Jackets, more than doubling their lead over Denham Springs.

Player of the Game

Hahnville running back Anthony “Pooka” Williams was undoubtedly the best player on the field during the game. Williams, who is always a threat to score, was responsible for the first five of the six Hahnville rushing touchdowns. On 26 total carries, the Kansas commit ran for nearly 300 of 346 rushing yards.
