Bishop Hendricken vs North Kingstown: What You Need to Know

Bishop Hendricken vs North Kingstown

North Kingstown hasn’t lost since November of 2016, but they will put their winning streak on the line against perennial power Bishop Hendricken. The last time these two programs met in 2011, Bishop Hendricken cruised to a 41-12 victory.

The game will be broadcast live on Yurview for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.

Cream of the Crop in Rhode Island

Following the 2011 season, North Kingstown dropped from Division I to Division II in Rhode Island, but since then, coach Joe Gilmartin has turned North Kingstown back into a prestigious program. Since going 5-18 in his first two seasons, Gilmartin has led North Kingstown to a 51-12 record over the last six years. North Kingstown won its first state championship last season and are currently on a 16-game winning streak.

But obviously, Bishop Hendricken is no slouch. Last season, they advanced to the Division I state championship game, where they lost to La Salle Academy, 22-21.

That ended Bishop Hendricken’s seven-year reign as Division I state champions. In addition to seven state titles, they own an 88-9 record over the last nine years. Last season was the first time Bishop Hendricken didn’t win the Division I title since 2009.

North Kingstown won the Division II title last season, but realignment moved its football program back to Division I for the first time in seven years.

Players to Watch

OT Xavier Truss – Bishop Hendricken

247Sports included just one Rhode Island player in its 2019 recruiting class and that was the offensive tackle from Bishop Hendricken. Truss is an absolute monster, standing at 6-foot-7 and 350 pounds.

A 4-star prospect, Truss reportedly received offers from all the big time programs, including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and several others.

But he already made his decision, committing to Georgia in June.

RB Gabe Sloat – North Kingstown

In the program’s first game back in Division I, Sloat led the way with five touchdowns in a 56-14 victory against Portsmouth.

Behind that performance, North Kingstown was already ranked the No. 3 Division I team in Rhode Island. Even after a Week 1 loss, Bishop Hendricken was No. 1.
