The 15th edition of the MidFirst Bank Backyard Bowl was played at the University of Tulsa’s Chapman Stadium Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Union Redskins and Jenks Trojans are two of the dominant powers in Oklahoma high school football.
Legendary Jenks coach Allan Trimble retired this spring. Under new head coach Keith Riggs the Trojans opened the season 2 & 0. Tonight they opened the Backyard Bowl with a time consuming drive that culminated in a 12 yard touchdown pass from
Ian Corwin to Dreyson Watters. With 5:37 left in the first quarter Jenks led 7-0.
Late in the first quarter it was Corwin again hitting a wide open Julian Clarke who raced 73 yards to the end zone. The Trojans led 13-0 with 3 seconds left in the first.
In the second quarter Union got on the scoreboard with a ten yard reverse. Kyler Pearson’s touchdown made the score Jenks 13, Union 7, at the 4:02 mark. Jenks struck back quickly Corwin finding Blake Pitcock for the 20 yard touchdown. Jenks led 20 to 7, at the half.
In the third quarter Union came up with a field goal to make it 20 to 10. With about three minutes left in the game, Noah Hernandez eliminated all doubt about the outcome scoring from 2 yards out. The final score was Jenks 27, Union 10.
Jenks quarterback Ian Corwin was 15-25 for 273 yards and 3 touchdowns.
