Creighton Prep Answers 26-point Deficit for 4th Quarter Comeback

Millard West took the lead early at Phelps Field Friday night. The game started out as a purely defensive battle, leaving both teams scoreless and waiting for a mistake to exploit.

Wildcats Break Out

When the break finally came, it was in favor of the Wildcats, who quickly went on to score 26 unanswered points.

They started the scoring as they started the game, with the defense forcing a safety to put the Wildcats up by 2 with James Conway leading the charge. Hard on the heels of that score, Jacob Jones ran it in for the first Cats TD.

Brady Brau, in for the injured Jones, ran it in for the next Wildcats score. It seemed like Millard West’s game to win, until it wasn’t.

Jr. Jays Get Even

Entering the game’s final quarter, there was no indication the Jr. Jays had it in them to score 29 points and secure the victory.

Junior RB Jack Stessman was the first to break Creighton Prep’s scoring drought. Turns out, he’d opened the floodgates.

Max Sanders was the next to reach the end zone on a gorgeous reverse out handoff.

Just when things started going the Jays’ way, a Sam Meysenburg pass to AJ Rollins in the end zone looked like it might be ruled an interception. Officials eventually decided in Rollins’ favor, and the scoring continued.

A fumble return by Ryan Kearney on the ensuing possession was followed by a successful 2-point conversion with 2 minutes left in the game.

With a lead that close, 2 minutes can be an eternity. but with 1:19 left, Alex Bullock intercepts the Wildcats to make the big defensive stop.

Millard West drops to 1-3 while Creighton Prep rises to 2-2 on this 4th quarter comeback win.
