Thang leads Jenks Trojans to 1-0 season opener victory over Booker T. Washington Hornets

The Jenks Trojans varsity boys soccer team started the season off with a bang as they defeated the Booker T. Washington Hornets 1-0 at S.E. Williams Stadium at Booker T. Washington High School Thursday evening.

The only score of the game came in the 37 minute of the second half when Jenks’ Pau Thang scored from 30 yards out.

“We spoke at halftime about taking shots from distance and thankfully that worked out for us,” Jenks head coach Eric Marshall said. “We definitely played a better second half. We had more possessions and an offensive threat and the shot by Pau (Thang) that sealed the victory for us.”

Booker T. Washington (0-1 overall) had four shots on the goal to Jenks’ three. The Hornets ended the night with seven fouls.

“We still have some things to work on, but I am happy with the win tonight. We didn’t play well throughout the game, but we will take the second half win.”

Jenks’ (1-0) defense proved to be too much for the Hornets. Booker T. had more possessions and more opportunities to put the ball in the back of the net, but the Hornets could never get close enough to the goal to capitalize on anything.

Jenks’ Oo Ah received a yellow card in the 41 minute of the second half.
