Defending Class 6A champion Mustang proved they have potential to repeat that success after an 11-1 run-rule victory over Norman North. Watch a replay of the game here.
Mustang senior Braden Corley threw 66 pitches and earned eight strikeouts, including five consecutive. “Strikes, obviously, was huge part of the game,” said Corley. “I had a defense behind me that I knew they were gonna be able to make the plays and our hitting was fantastic tonight. So that just really made everything better.”
Mustang scored first at the bottom of the first inning as Logan Glass hit a double RBI to allow Cole Embrey to run in.
Following two scoreless innings, Braden Corley hit a double RBI to extend the lead to 3-0 at the bottom of the fourth.
Norman North was able to get on the board in the sixth inning after a double RBI by Dalton Smith allowed Grant Randall to score.
The beginning of the end came for Norman North early at the bottom of the sixth inning as Noah Barks hit a triple to give Mustang two more runs. After three pitching changes, Norman North was unable to combat with Mustang’s momentum as they scored an additional six more innings to bring the score to 11-1, thus ending the game.
This victory for Mustang follows a loss to Norman North on the road the previous night. “It’s always a good rebound anywhere,” said Mustang head coach Keanon Simon. “They knew this is a big game for us…I’m a little unconvential that I let them know it’s a big game, that we need to come on and produce and put a little pressure on them and they responded.”
