The Owasso Rams didn’t pull any punches as they defeated the Southmoore Sabercats 48-2 Thursday night at Moore School Stadium.
Heading into tonight’s game against the SaberCats (0-7, 0-4), Owasso averaged 52 points per game.
The No. 2 Class 6A-I, District 2 Rams (6-1 overall, 3-1 in district) were led by running back Bryce Cabrera, who rushed for 112 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns.
Owasso quarterback Will Kuehne was 9-of-13 passing for 175 yards.
“I was really proud we got to play a lot of guys in the second half,” Owasso head coach Bill Blankenship said. “I think it really helps build our program and get us to the right place.”
Rams safety Josh Proctor, who has committed to play at Ohio State University, got in on the fun, by scoring on a 6-yard rush late in the second quarter.
Owasso also saw scores from Tyrese Sisson and Grant Vanlandingham.
Christian Johnson and Preston Hendricks both connected on field goals for the Rams.
Southmoore’s only score of the game came late in the fourth corner when they tackled Rams quarterback for a safety.
“As the season progresses, I would like for us to become a better football team every week,” Blankenship said. “Everyone wants to point to the finals, but you got to get there by qualifying for the playoffs and we have to be a better team than when we were last week. We play Norman North next week, which will be a great game, and we will be bringing our A-game.”
The Rams defense held Sabercats QB Jaedyn Scott to only 19 yards passing. Scott came out in the first quarter and was replaced by Maxwell Gilbert. Gilbert finished the night with 10 passing yards.
Owasso heads to Norman to take on No. 7 Norman North Timberwolves (5-1, 3-0) Friday, October 20.
Southmoore will look to win their first game of the season as they travel to face the No. 1 Union Redskins (6-0, 3-0) Thursday, October 19.
