Norman North vs Putnam City North

Norman North and Putnam City North will renew their annual matchup this Thursday night. Putnam City North hasn’t won in this series in five years, but coming into this week, most would consider them the favorite even on the road.

The game will be broadcast live on Yurview Oklahoma for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on

Heading in Opposite Directions

Putnam City North has undergone a significant transformation in the first season under new coach Ryan Laverty. They enter this week at 5-1, which means the program has already guaranteed its first five-win season since 2013. Ironically, that season was the last time they beat Norman North.

Putnam City is now aiming to earn its first winning season in the last six years. They haven’t won at least seven games during a season since 2009.

But on the other sideline, Norman North has struggled under first-year coach Justin Jones. They enter this week 1-5 and have lost their last two games to Owasso and Moore by a combined of 75-7 score.

Unless Norman North ends the season on a four-game winning streak and then wins at least one playoff game if they earn a postseason berth, they will have suffered their first losing season since 2010.

Players to Watch

DE Cole Mashburn – Norman North

The 6-foot-3 and 240-pound senior plays on both sides of the ball, but he primarily lines up as a defensive end. 247Sports considers him a 3-star prospect and the seventh-best Oklahoma recruit in the 2019 class.

He reportedly received seven offers and committed to Memphis in September.

QB Aaron Norment – Putnam City North

This season has been tougher for the junior signal caller, but as a sophomore last season, Norment passed for 2,200 yards and rushed for 600 yards. He is a difference maker that will need to have a big game for Putnam City North to turn around its season.
