A pair of Oklahoma Class 3A 2017 playoff teams will square off in Oklahoma City on Friday. The 2017 Class 3A state champions, John Marshall, will host Douglass, who is a team very much looking to bounce back after last week.
16 straight victories and counting
The last time Marshall lost was Sept. 1, 2017. They have won 16 straight since then, including five playoff games a year ago to win the state title.
This season, Marshall hasn’t allowed a point. They defeated Northeast Academy, 60-0, on opening weekend, and then won another blowout, 46-0, against Capitol Hill, last Friday.
Douglass, who lost in the first round of the Class 3A 2017 playoffs, beat Star-Spencer in Week 1, but then sustained an embarrassing, 56-0, loss to Millwood on Saturday. Rebounding against a team on a 16-game winning streak will be tough, but it’s very likely Douglass players will be extremely focused to get last week’s bad taste out of their mouths.
Players to Watch
QB Jarod Leviston – John Marshall
The dual-threat quarterback does a little bit of everything for Marshall, including on defense. Leviston threw for more than 1,664 yards and chipped in about another 1,000 yards in rushing and receiving as a junior last year. He also accounted for 24 total touchdowns.
This season, he has four touchdowns and one interception.
In Week 1, Bethany starred in Douglass’ comeback victory against Star-Spencer, recording five catches, 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
