To kick off what is one of the most entertaining football districts in the country, Union and Edmond Santa Fe will meet in the first round of the Class 6A-I on Friday.
2017 Playoff Rematch
Union and Edmond Santa Fe didn’t face each other during the regular season, but just as they will Friday, they squared off in first round of the Class 6A-I last year. Union dominated that contest, winning, 28-3.
However, Edmond Santa Fe is a much better team this season. They went 7-3, winning two more games than they did last year.
That’s the positive. The negative for Edmond Santa Fe is they enter the playoffs on a two-game losing streak. Edmond Santa Fe lost to Jenks, 49-8, on Oct. 26, and then on the road to Norman last Friday, 31-20.
As usual, Union has been a dominate team this year, and they have gotten better as the season has gone. Since the calendar switched to October, Union has outscored opponents by an average of 45.2 points.
Players to Watch
DE Trace Ford – Edmond Santa Fe
Based on the 247Sports rankings, Ford sits as the No. 6 recruit from Oklahoma in the 2019 class. As a 4-star prospect, he is also the No. 39 defensive end in the class, including the second-highest rated defensive lineman in Oklahoma.
Ford reportedly received more than a dozen offers. In August, he decided to stay close to home and committed to Oklahoma State.

QB Peyton Thompson – Union
A 3-star prospect, Thompson is one of the best pro-styled quarterbacks in the state and sits at the No. 15 recruit in Oklahoma. He has reportedly received offers from Eastern Michigan, Abilene Christian and Columbia. Furthermore, Power 5 schools such as West Virginia, Iowa State and Missouri have expressed interest in the quarterback.
If Thompson commits to Eastern Michigan, he will be following Union running back Darius Boone, who committed to Eastern Michigan in June.
Boone, who is also a 3-star recruit, is the No. 22 Oklahoma recruit in the 2019 class.
Thompson showed his excitement for the start of the playoffs on Twitter last week.

He received six offers, but in June, the 6-foot-3 and 320-pound lineman committed to Tulsa.
