ada vs noble what you need to know

For the second straight week, the 2017 Oklahoma Class 4A runner-up, Ada, will receive a difficult test from a Class 5A perennial title contender. Last week it was Ardmore, this week it’s Noble. Last year, Noble advanced to the Oklahoma Class 5A semifinals.

History repeating itself?

On opening weekend, Ada lost to rival Ardmore for the sixth straight season, and many of those losses have been by double digits. With another tough road matchup this week, Ada is in danger of falling to 0-2 for the second consecutive year.

Ada obviously wants to avoid that, but a 0-2 hole doesn’t completely doom them. Ada is once again playing better competition early in the season in the hopes it will help during the playoffs. Both of last season’s first two losses for Ada came against squads in the class level above them. The team turned its season around from there, finishing 10-4 and advancing to the Class 4A championship.

Noble won’t mind too much either if parts of last season repeat itself. The program won its first four games and captured 10 victories for the first time in years. Noble defeated Newcastle, 42-21, last week.

Players to Watch

QB Hayden Lingle – Noble

More responsibility falls upon the senior signal caller this season with the departure of running back Danny Arebalo, who also played linebacker and punter in 2017. Lingle threw for more than 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns last year.

QB Zac Carroll – Ada

While Noble possesses the veteran signal caller, Carroll should make his second high-school start. He beat out senior Tanner Gilliam for the starting job during training camp.
