Carl Albert vs Guthrie

In one of the most highly-anticipated games of the 2018 season in Oklahoma, Carl Albert will square off against Guthrie this Friday. Both teams are off to excellent starts at 6-0.

Because it won our Ford Fan Pick this week, this game will be broadcast live on Yurview Oklahoma for customers of Cox Communications and will also stream live on Yurview.com.

Undefeated Records on the Line

Carl Albert is seeking its third straight Class 5A championship. They have been nearly perfect, going 33-1 since 2016.

In 2018, they’ve been tested. Carl Albert escaped with a one-touchdown and a one-point overtime victory during the first two weeks of the season. But since then, they have averaged 43 points per game and allowed just two touchdowns. Last week, Carl Albert defeated Northwest Classen, 48-0.

Guthrie is no slouch this season either. At 6-6, they snuck into the playoffs in 2017, but this fall, they have already matched their win total from a year ago (at 6-0). Guthrie hasn’t won at least seven games in a season since 2014.

Despite the Carl Albert recent domination, Guthrie is actually 3-2 in this series over the last five years. Carl Albert has won the last two meetings, though, and knocked off Guthrie, 55-10, in 2017.

Players to Watch

RB Dadrion “Rabbit” Taylor – Carl Albert

Taylor returns from injury just in time to dress for this matchup. With him in the lineup, Carl Albert is clearly the team to beat in Class 5A.

The senior back is eyeing a third straight state championship to end his high school career.

QB Ben Harris – Carl Albert

Starting as a freshman last year, Harris became one of the biggest surprises in Oklahoma, leading Carl Albert to its first-ever undefeated season.

While the rushing attack is certainly the focal point of the Carl Albert offense, Harris is a budding star.

OLB Donminic Goosby – Guthrie

One of the senior leaders for Guthrie, Goosby plays both outside linebacker and tight end. He will need to shine on each side of the ball in order for Guthrie to hand Carl Albert its first loss in nearly two years.

WR Tahliq Jackson – Guthrie

Jackson is the man that makes the Guthrie offense go. He’ll need to make a couple acrobatic catches in this one.
