So We Meet Again

The series between Carl Albert and Bishop McGuinness over the last couple years has been quite incredible. Carl Albert owns a slight 3-2 edge in the series since 2015, but that doesn’t even begin to tell the full story.

These programs have met in each of the last Class 5A championships. Although both matchups were close, Carl Albert won the 2016 and 2017 titles.

Carl Albert is 36-1 since 2016, including 9-0 this season. The team’s only loss came in 2016 against Bishop McGuinness during the regular season.

Bishop McGuinness owns a 32-5 record during the same time frame without the two championships. Three of those five losses have come against Carl Albert.

This season, Bishop McGuinness sits at 8-1 heading into its matchup regular-season matchup with its arch-enemy. Bishop McGuinness hasn’t lost since its first game when the team fell, 47-7, to Del City.

Players to Watch

RB Dadrion “Rabbit” Taylor – Carl Albert

Taylor missed several games because of a knee injury, but he’s back and arguably better than ever. Since returning from injury on Oct. 12, Taylor has 266 rushing yards and five touchdowns in three games.

The senior back is eyeing a third straight Class 5A state championship to end his high school career.

QB Ben Harris – Carl Albert

As a freshman in 2017, Harris led Carl Albert to its first-ever undefeated season.

Without Taylor for part of this year, Harris has become a star even with limited opportunities. Last week, he went 5-of-7 passing with 160 yards and three touchdowns in a rout against Eisenhower.

RB Dominic Richardson – Bishop McGuiness

He also plays defensive back, but 247Sports considers Richardson a 3-star running back in the 2020 recruiting class. He is the sixth-highest ranked prospect in the 2020 class.

Richardson has reportedly received offers from Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa State, Nebraska and Memphis.
