McQuarters, No. 4 Union Redskins Shut Down No. 10 Sand Springs 53-34

Michiah McQuarters led the No. 4 Union Redskins with a 53-34 victory over the No. 10 Sand Springs Tuesday night at Union High School.

McQuarters led the Redskins with 18 points. Sand Springs’ Colt Savage led his team with 19 points.

In their first matchup this season, Union (16-4 overall) defeated Sand Springs (14-5) 99-47.

The first half was tough for the the Sandites – the team only scored one point in the second quarter.

“The coach has been getting on to me about attacking the basket and thank God some baskets were falling tonight,” McQuarters said. “Coach Garcia told me to attack the basket more and he’s been pushing me in practice to be a more efficient scorer.”

Redskins senior guard Mo Garcia went down in the third with an apparent right knee injury. Union head coach Rudy Garcia says they will evaluate him more Wednesday.

Union will finish out the season against Sapulpa, Bixby and Bartlesville.
