Arizona Distillery Thumb Butte Proves to Be One of the Country’s Finest

The first legal distillery in Prescott since prohibition ended in 1933

Thumb Butte Distillery came from the idea a group of friends had to create an Arizona distillery using local ingredients to make spirits.

Dana Murdock, co-owner of Thumb Butte notes it is the first legal distillery in the city of Prescott since prohibition ended in 1933. The distillery produces vodka, gin, whiskey, and rum. They try to keep their products tied to the part of Arizona they call home.

Rodeo Rye is named for the world’s oldest rodeo, Prescott Rodeo. Bloody Basin Bourbon denotes a landmark just down the road on I-17. And others all tied to the geography of the area make the distillery the authentic spirit of Prescott.

Thumb Butte Distillery offers custom gift boxes that allow you to select the most tasteful and appropriate gifts for your friends and family. Their whiskey is made in small batches proofed to taste. Each bottle is hand numbered with the proof written on the label. The bottles are offered in three different gift boxes and available in the tasting room. It can be ordered by phone or online, but must be picked up in the tasting room.

Learn how to make cocktails from Mixologist, Ben Dowson, as he demonstrates two tasty treats. Watch for the Sazerac, of New Orleans extraction, and the Corpse Reviver.
