Slip and Get Paid?

Sponsored by Huffman & Huffman

Caution: Wet Floor

We’ve all seen those ‘Caution: Wet Floor’ signs in stores, but what happens if you slip and there’s no warning? Or if a spilled drink in a grocery store aisle leads to a painful fall? When is a property owner responsible for your injuries, and when is it just an unfortunate accident?

David Ratz, a litigation attorney with Huffman & Huffman, joins Living 757 to help us understand when a slip-and-fall could be a personal injury claim.

What if you get hurt while in a business?

He also explains what steps you should take if you or a loved one gets hurt at a business.

When it comes to slip-and-fall accidents, Attorney Ratz tells us the most common places that they occur:

-Wet floors

-Uneven surfaces

-Weather-related conditions such as snow or rain

-Poor lighting

-Cluttered areas

How property owners can protect themselves

As a property owner, you have to be sure to take appropriate measures to either mitigate the problem areas, or at the very least make it known that they are there.

Some examples of this are a “caution, wet floor” sign, or an orange cone over a pothole or a big bump in a road.

Cameras can be helpful or hurtful when it comes to a personal injury case-depending on what those cameras catch!

Workers’ compensation

If you are injured while on the job, that will fall under workers’ compensation, and is a great way to recoup lost wages and for any paychecks missed while out of work.

What if you’re hurt?

If you fall and slip in a public place, number 1- report the incident. After reporting, take photos of the space of the occurrence and gather information from any witnesses.

Finally, call Huffman & Huffman so they can help you figure out if you have a case or not.
