IYRS Shark Week Screening Offers “Fin-tastic” Fun

IYRS Shark Week

Sharks were spotted on the coast of Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday, July 21! Sounds alarming, but not to worry! These sharks were of the video variety and they were technically confined to land.

IYRSYou see, on this Saturday IYRS School of Technology and Trades played host to a Sneak Peek preview of the Discovery Channels immensely popular Shark Week series. The preview, arranged by Cox Media and sponsored by IYRS, was presented on a giant 21 foot screen located in a cavernous room on the oceanside IYRS campus. The Shark Week episode viewing, however, made up just part of the festivities.

IYRS also offered an open house on their campus earlier that day for prospective students and those simply interested in finding out out more about the unique school. Dr. Bradley Wetherbee, a Teaching Professor and shark expert in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, led a shark discussion and Q and A for the gathered crowd. And the day’s perfect weather served up the ideal backdrop for the winners of a sweepstakes – the prize: a cruise on the Rum Runner II. What better way to celebrate Shark Week than this fun and educational day by the sea in Newport!
